The first Softball Tryouts! Help?
This is my first time trying for the softball team. I am a sophomore year and I want to at least JV. I know I am good at catching and sprinting from base to base. I want to know what equipment I need for testing. I would like also know what the coaches expect from a player so I can display these qualities!
This is your first time to play for a team Softball? If so, you may need practice before trying a few. As a coach, I try 1) TALENT 2) work ethic 3) sportsmanship 4) the ability of the coach – (which means it is easy to teach or take instructions). For your equipment, you will need your own crampons and Mitt. If you use batting gloves, then make your own. Bats are generally provided by other players and school. I personally have a bias to my bats so I make my own. Depending on your level of play, you want May Knee / Shin Guards made specifically for softball. They help protect your legs against scratches, raspberries, and / or bruising sliding into bases for diving or after balls. You also may want sliding shorts (they have a stamp on the back of the leg), but they are completely optional. Helmets will most likely be provided so you really need two main things: a glove and spikes. As the test goes, be sure to Hustle … everywhere. If you are finished with a drill and they offer you a drink, struggling to the grave and returns to the ground. My philosophy is that you should never walk once you hit the ground. Moreover, nobody wants you used to walk from one station to another. It makes you look lazy. Another thing is to always be positive. Make sure you encourage your teammates and always encouraging others. Finally, whatever you do NEVER GIVE UP! Good luck to you!
