The types and uses of buttons
A button is an object that is used in clothing, or for fixing or ornamental or both. Buttons are usually in the form of a disc or button. Experience shows that the buttons are used for longer Buttons used from 1500-2000 BC 2600-2800 BC have been excavated in the ancient Indus Valley, while those used in 1500-2000 BC have been found in China and in Rome.
Materials used in buttons
The buttons can be made from a wide variety of materials – plastic, wood, brass, bone, horn, pearls, ivory, fabrics, shells, glass, leather, stone, ceramics and polymer clay.
Evolution of buttons
In the 13th century, buttons were used in ornaments, then they started to be used as a functional fastener in the 16th century. During the 15th and 16th centuries, buttons plated Gold and silver have been popular among the nobility. In the 18th century, the trend of buttons at Enamel Set in the early 19th century, fabric buttons and glass and ceramics began to be used if the glass and ceramic buttons are not very popular. Towards the middle 19th century, buttons, shells, beads, horn, steel and brass has become popular. Towards the latter part of the 19th century, enamel buttons made a comeback. In 1930, the buttons began to be made using wood and plastic.
Buttons were first introduced as a means of ornamentation of a garment, but over time they began to serve as fasteners. In the 1940s, men used to wear about 70 buttons on their clothes, only a few have been useful for the attachment.
After Second World War, the buttons began to be used more for functional reasons and for decorative purposes.
Types Buttons
The buttons can be of different types, such as:
1) flat keys: Keys plates have holes so they can be sewn on clothing. These buttons can be 2 or 4 holes on their surface. These buttons can be attached to clothing either manually or using a sewing machine.
2) Shank buttons: Shank buttons have a tail, a small bar or a ring attached to their return. The buttons can be attached to clothing using this rod.
3) buttons covered: covered buttons refer to buttons that are made of fabric, with a commitment on the back. These buttons can be attached to clothing using this attachment.
